New 4 hour regime.

I'd like to write something fantastic, but after 4 hours of school .. I cannot be bothered.
The day went like this:
Math, reading, writing, sight words, art, science, music.
I missed history and language.

Making air with a concertina fan.

I got offered a deal with a US based Home Schooling system. If I #hashtag certain home schooling words on Instagram, they'll send me free resources once a month. Sometimes it's more annoying than actually schooling her, but it's worth it because the resources they offer are amazing eg. Beginners Spanish - which is first on my list.

Chinese New Year.

... couldn't tell you what it means exactly and I have Chinese blood running through my veins. At the Cornwall Chinese gardens, they had a lantern spectacle. It's an area that would usually take 2 minutes to circle, but because of the small crowd it took 5 minutes. I was also walking fast because mosquitoes had bit all up my legs and I wanted out.

Nice way to end a Friday night after a scorcher of a day - maxed out at 33°C with 78% humidity in Hawkes Bay today.  It was hideous.
Topped off the night with Chinese food.

The Daily Shenanigans.

Avi crashed our morning schooling.
Lucky she's the cutest.

Roaming the community this evening.

Afternoon visits with our forever.

Miss him mucho.
Lately I've been watching Long Island Medium (Thanks Oriwa). I love hearing the stories and some of them are so convincing it gets me a little emotional, but I've always thought that if mediums and psychics were real, it would defeat the purpose of the spirit of the Lord and the Holy Ghost. It's not just a Mormon thing, I think it's Christians in general who believe that God guides and directs us via the Holy Ghost. It's nice and interesting to see how some people find their closure.

Speaking of closure. I'm in denial that I'm 37 in a few more weeks.
40 is the new 30 - straight from Fiorenza's mouth - so I don't feel so bad.

The law of concecration/minimalism.

If you had 5 minutes to leave your house forever, what would you take with you?

Since November I've been downsizing in an attempt to live shades of the law of consecration, being a minimalist, and slowly I've been getting rid of items that are just stuff. If I haven't given it away, I've thrown it away. I sat down one day as I was folding towels and thought to myself, why do I need this many towels? It continued on to, why do I need this many plates, knives, forks, cups, lamps, blankets? Soon it became, If you don't use it don't keep it and I've offloaded lots of stuff that people have appreciated.

I don't need everything that I have and I'm working my way through it all for the purpose of abiding by the law of consecration - or living minimally - and it's made me realize I'm richer than I think.

In those imaginable 5 minutes I'd honestly be able to leave almost everything behind. Nothing is more important than memories and all my photos are on a portable hard drive and I'm going to eventually scan 20 years of journals and store them on a 1TB USB. I'm leaving with my flight pack, child and my memories on 2TBs.

It's nice to have things to make life comfortable, but in the event that you have to walk away from it all, that stuff doesn't matter.

I'll let you know how that goes.

Play Day.

Excuse the dirty nails, they've been cut since this photo was taken. I don't know what this contraption is, but it kept her occupied for 30 minutes.

All her school stuff is loaded onto her new school computer (Thank you Livians) and she's learned the basics around the desktop, starting up the school apps and shutting down the computer. I still remember years ago how horrid it was trying to teach her how to use a mouse. I still have the sticker on the same mouse representing which side she needs to click to enter a program. Now she's a bit of a whiz.

Basketball began today. She has a new team and was a little anxious about being without her cousin Darrell, but she has the best coaches this year.  Uncle Dion and Uncle Ia are the best. Edge got two tries today .. or whatever they're called in basketball.

In the baskets?

Sight words: get, can and be.
Still working on this and has.
I started this post at 8pm. I had intended to write a long winded spiel about school today. Then I got a FaceTime from Saudi Arabia. Then brother 3 came to use the computer. Then Papa Greg came to use the computer ...

... then just as I was enjoying watching Saudi Arabia peel green apples, we got disconnected and it was suddenly 10pm.
Time for The Walking Dead.

Sharing Time.

Ever been to the circus in your Sunday best?

This weirdy was biting Hubba's feet.

Caught red handed going through my bag looking for yummies. The one at the back was poking around in it moments before. Hoodrats from Ngatarawa!

MYOB - the act not the software.

One thing I dislike is how people lack the concept of minding their own business. Today, during 2nd hour at church, I was asked to play piano at a fireside this evening. I told the person I had a prior engagement I would try get out of and suggested she contact the actual ward pianist in the meantime. A little over an hour before the fireside was to begin, I sent a message to the person confirming I wasn't available tonight.

Ten minutes after the fireside was supposed to begin I get a text from someone, not even in the ward, who tells me about how I'm supposed to be at the fireside and asking where I was. It wasn't a question deserving of a response, but I dignified it with one, to which they responded 'someone's lying'.

I stood where I was, dropped a silent F-bomb and in my head broke the 6th commandment.

1. Don't ask me last minute to do something that has been planned for.
2. Mind your own fricken business.
3. There are people who I wouldn't trust to hold my toothbrush, lest they dip it in the toilet, who at times make my church activity minimal.
4. Felt bad about it for a few hours before ruling it off to piss poor planning and miscommunication.

Hats off to all mothers out there who have more than one child. It's enough to leave you nuts.

I spent the last 12 hours with Mitchy and the crew and the worst one of them all was that newborn. I told Avi she sucked a few times today because she was in a foul mood for most of the afternoon.

Dealing with teenagers who hate you every other day, who are lazy and delay doing their jobs who have phone and social media addictions to the boy who doesn't want to shower, who instead sprays his entire body with Lynx (Axe in the US) to cover his stench to the 7 year old who cries at basically anything who thinks your bed in a trampoline to the visiting 5 year old who is a little bit of a control freak and is fluent in being a smart ass to that newborn baby who can't tell you what the hell she's crying about because she doesn't know how to talk yet. All at once.

A newborn is not all peaches and cream. Love our Avi to bits, but today she made me want to come home, crawl into my closet and do some serious rocking back n forth. I stayed because ... Mitchy doesn't have a closet.

She does all this husband-less for 26 days of the month.
Mitchy is a Superwoman and THAT is why her hair looked crazy the other day.

With her side kick ... Ultimate Warrior (because I couldn't draw Batman properly).

Chorizo School.

I went to sleep just after 4am last night and woke up this morning just before 9am. I do not know what is wrong with me, but this touch of insomnia is bound to get worse.

School bright and early today from the couch. A change of scenery gave Edge an extra push and we had a solid day.

Added 4 new sight words to her list. She's doing pretty well and can read through two Learner PM books with little error. She's pretty happy with herself. A+ for Gryffindor.

Writing practice. I still remember how hard it was to stay within the lines.

Addition without a calculator. Can't tell you how much she loved adding and subtracting, but I have a video of her dancing around the house because she got all 10 answers right. She's been asking to do math for weeks and the books I had been teaching from were subpar.

A tea party with the Disney girls this afternoon.

Nessa & Avi.

I needed chorizo. I've heard all kinds of bad stories about the contents of chorizo in America, especially the brand sold out of Vallartas. Despite hearing about cows lips and tongues blended with spices and encased in intestines, I was sold. Chorizo, the vallarta way, is the best.
I shall share the secrets of the chorizo - Kiwi style. It's all I can offer and is the next best thing to the real deal.
Half a kg of ground/minced pork - do not use pork sausage meat get mince pork.

1/4 c apple cider vinegar
Paprika, Cinnamon, Cayenne Pepper, Oregano (dried), Cumin, Salt, Chili - 1/2 teaspoon.
3 crushed garlic cloves or 3 Tbsp.

Add a small diced onion for good measure and water content.

That ish needs to marinate and chill for at least 8 hours.

I shall show you my breakfast burrito tomorrow.

Summer part 2

Nessa envisioned this shoot with my nephew Ellis. They pulled it all together very well. Hubs was supposed to be in it, but got stage fright...
