While reading The Legend of Ferdinand at bedtime tonight, Hubba asked me if Ferdinand was a girl cow because he likes sitting quietly smelling flowers. She compared Ferdinand to someone she knows who has those tendencies. This spiraled into an array of questions about girls being boys and boys being girls. She totally overshot the point of the Ferdinand story, but she's more aware than I thought.
Started a 13 week course today to learn Te Reo (The Maori Language). Why do I want to learn Te Reo? I've been to a total of 12 tangi (funerals) at the marae since 2013 and e-v-e-r-y-t-i-m-e someone gets up and says something in Maori, I spend the e-n-t-i-r-e time wondering what in the hell they're saying. And when they say something funny in Maori and everyone laughs, I laugh with them because it's obviously funny enough to have the place erupt in laughter.
I want to join the chorus of laughter too knowing exactly what I'm laughing about and not because everyone else is doing it.
