The Weekend.

Steak Sandwiches.

Making peanut brownies with Shai.

What the Edmonds cook book recipe doesn't use is brown sugar .. this makes a difference to the chewiness.

Next time we'll omit the peanuts for chocolate chips.

We got wood for winter.
Thanks Mum! Glad you live down the road.
School holidays is in a week and Shai is grounded.
Hope she knows how to stack wood .. guess what she's doing during her holidays.

My parents new pet Floyd. (birds are for crazy people)
He's an idiot.

The Livians first room near complete.

Hubba-Lushicious and her OTC hair.

The babies with Uncle Lazz.

You may have noticed ...

He's back.

I happily welcome LW3D back into my life and will appreciate the spousal neglect that comes with it because LW3D is his passion.

Camera unload & everything else.

We found Gourmet Cakes one Saturday while contemplating what we were going to have for lunch. I got the Caramel & Oats slice that was pretty thick with golden syrup.

Shai got a double chocolate raspberry ganache slice.

Hot chocolate from Breakers.

Pizzookie with The Henry's.
Caramel & Milk chocolate in one, Double chocolate in the other.

Midnight fondue.

We haven't seen Carlos in a while on the blog. Let me tell you why.
She was weaned off of her binky and during this time she was H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. For about 2 months she was a total a-hole.
She's all better now and we love her all over again.
When we weaned Rome off of her binky, last year, we simply cut it up. Naturally she was devastated. Yes it was cruel .. but it worked like a charm.

Made Ranch dressing tonight.
It was a very exciting ordeal.

Cultured buttermilk. Bestfoods mayo & the sachets.

Good for 3 weeks!

We celebrated the birth of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing in Hawkes Bay with Hot Wings ... with real Franks Hot Sauce.

With love, Your Seminary Teacher.

To The Korongata Seminary Boys who didn't get the memo this morning that there was no Seminary. The same boys who rocked up to my house at 7.30am, banged on my windows and blew an air horn .. to those same boys, and those who sat in the car and became accomplices to the crime, we hope you enjoyed your cookies.

We know how much you love Pizzookies, so we thought we'd treat you today for the wake up call this morning and made a special batch just for you 5.

The tainted batch.

The untainted batch.

For the bad guys in the front, the good guys in the back.

The secret ingredient?

Your 2010 Seminary Teacher & Tyler.

Next time think about who you're waking up.

Ranch Dressing

If you were to taste New Zealand's version of ranch dressing, you'd say it's tartar sauce.

Despite the fact that I know these per pack are 99cents in the US, I got 6 for $25 USD because it's worth it. Thanks eBay and thanks NZ for being bland, culinarily speaking.

Prawn Laksa - 21/47

When fellow blogger Radka emailed me Lobster Laksa I added it to The 47.

I spent some time in the Asian grocery store yesterday looking for the right ingredients by picture because nothing is in English .. except the price.

Start off with 2 Tbsp of peanut oil in the pot. Chop and add the white parts only of 4 spring onions. Saute for 1 minute.

Add 2 Tbsps of crushed garlic, 1 tsp of turmeric and 2 Tbsps of Red Curry. The aroma that made my eyes water after mixing these together was worse than rubbing onions on your eyes. I had to open doors and windows and it's freezing outside.

Add 2 cups of chicken broth and 1.5 cups of coconut milk.

Simmer for 15 minutes and add mushrooms. Bring the sauce to a boil before adding the prawns (because Lobster is too expensive).

Let the prawns cook for only 3 minutes.
In the meantime, get the Laksa noodles ready. 10 minutes in a bowl with boiling water. Drain, shock and plate at the bottom of the bowl.

Chop the green parts of the spring onion and sprinkle over the noddles.

Pour the sauce, mushrooms and prawns over the noodles.

Garnish with Julianne cucumbers, bean sprouts, fried shallots and lemon wedges.

Ready to serve.

I'm glad Larry liked it because I'm never making it again ever.
I had 2 spoonfuls and my mouth was on fire from the spice overload. I got quite angry about it and said the F word twice at the dinner table.

Master Chef NZ's last episode was on a few nights ago. The last dish they made was Prawn Laksa - Malaysian cuisine. I knew I had listed Lobster Laksa so challenged myself to knock that one off this week.

I sincerely hated it .. because my pansy taste buds can't handle the spice. I had 3 cups of Pepsi Max for dinner. I haven't been able to taste anything all day because of a cold ... Prawn Laksa opened my sinuses and murdered my sick taste buds.

MAC played Tech on the weekend.
They won in the first round.
Not the second.

There really are no words anymore.

In better news.
I'll be throwing my skills at Prawn Laksa this week.

Winter is brutal this year.

Family Home Evening.

When sacrament meeting turned into a circus yesterday because of our kids .. I had a revelation for FHE. For non-members: Family Home Evening is a night set apart, usually a Monday evening, to spent time together as a family doing wholesome activities.

These kids bring props to church. They talk loud with eachother, fight and encourage other kids to come over with whatever props they have, thus, turning sacrament into one hour of irreverence.

Even if you threaten a kid with death during Sunday services, they're not going to listen. So I thought to bribe them.

The idea of the activity was to have them learn to sit quietly, without props with a promise of candy.
Ness broke first (left) when she thought the whole idea was dumb. She's probably the worst of the 6.

We tried for ten minutes the first round.
It lasted 2 when Rome (right end) burped erupting unstoppable giggles.

Out of view I placed the candy on the sacrament table in an attempt to entice them.

Dad making faces behind the pipe organ didn't help.

After 15 minutes of being-reverent practise, we tried testimonies.
It was semi-successful.
If everyone in the ward kept an eye on their kids and didn't let them wander our way I wouldn't have to play ringmaster.

May I add .. it's not just the kids. I've had to seperate Larry and Shai a few times because sacrament meeting is not the time or place for a peaknuckle tournament.

The Root Canal

Shai was scheduled to have a root canal last week.
She was defiant to a point where I wanted to kick her butt with a steal toe boot with nails welded onto it.
Then she met her dentist.

She had her root canal yesterday without complaints.
It's in 2 parts.
He'll do the whole gutta-percha thing in a few weeks.
She's excited.

No matter how good you may look.
Nothing is worth a root canal.

Happy June.

Welcome to Winter.
I love winter when it's summer and I love summer when it's winter. If it were Spring all year round, life would be bliss. The tree's are bare, it snowed last night somewhere and the southerly's we're getting make going anywhere an unpleasant experience. Lucky it's Tuesday and we didn't need to go anywhere .. except to pay the rent.

Larry is on a waiting list to see a cardiologist. We received this letter in the mail last week. It's a semi-urgent appointment and in public health that means we'll be waiting 6 months. Being in the public health system is ok in my book. No word regarding his surgery yet, so haemo dialysis continues 3 times a week and he still complains about the boredom. He can't have conversations with anyone because their chairs are too far apart and he still can't understand the Kiwi accent. (After 12 years I still have to repeat myself). If it weren't for cellphones and my hourly calls he'll go off the deep end bored out of his wits.

School begins August 6th. Exciting. The school offers a zero fee scheme for a limited amount of students (one of the few Techs/Unis that offer that here) per year and I managed to qualify. I'm happy about this. I wasn't keen on getting a student loan. Text books are still hundreds of dollars and I need to pay for those, but that's ok compared to the $8k student loan I was days away from applying for.

I cleaned my house yesterday.
I was trying to set an example for my two nieces who don't know what cleaning is.
The only thing they'll remember from yesterday is the yelling.
It was very liberating.

Saturday Rugby.

Round 2 began today. The Maddison Trophy.
MAC lost to Taradale .. worse than they did the first time they played them this season.
A question.
What the hell is going on?
Perhaps it has something to do with the prems players who played in the seconds game (before this game) AND this game.
I'm boggled.

They fell on the table to 7th place.
Something is amiss this season.
It's depressing me.

Happy Birthday Mum!
Love from your favorite daughter .. the one you didn't adopt from the SPCA.
This was taken in 1963 when she was 4.
We all look like her .. grandkids included.

Happy Birthday to Aunty Gabriel too .. and welcome to the world Truth Williams, who arrived at 4.35am this morning.

Happy Birthday Hubs!

Today, she's 11. She didn't mind one but that we're in Level 3 lockdown. At the very least, we have Delivery Easy to bring us ta...
