Updates.

Larry: The catheter flushed nicely! Recap on the training will begin next week. He should be off of haemo in 4 weeks, if not before, tunnel line out in 6 and good to go between now and 6 weeks.

Allegra: All went well with the surgery. This is all we asked for!

A good day.
Mucho Gracias to Jo for the study help!
You're amazing and then some.
9 papers down, 3 to go.

Allegra

I have to give a shout out to Allegra who has, over the course of a year, slowly lost her eye sight (like Uncle Larry!), and just this week was diagnosed with a tumor on her brain.
Craniopharyngiomas.
I'm just guessing because my brain is currently overloaded with study and diseases.
Tomorrow she will have a biopsy. 50 year old Larry barely endured his biopsy, 5 year old Allegra will show him how it's done.
We are thinking of you Leggy-May, especially tomorrow.
You are so very brave!
Loves to Nina, Les, Preston, Atalya & Ashton.
Update: It's full on brain surgery not a biopsy, a four hour procedure. Wish we were in Australia with her right now.

The two Carters ...

This Carter was born today (I think) in Australia to my cousin Daniel and his wife Nikita.

This Carter was born 2 weeks ago and was in SCUBU at the hospital until yesterday. He was scheduled to be born 3 weeks from now, but he came early. His Mum is my cousin Mere.
We really need to start sending eachother memo's on kids names.
We already have 2 Liams, 2 Corbins, 2 Joshuas, 2 Toris and 2 Taylors.
These two bump our count to 72 great grandkids for my grandparents.
3 great-great-grandkids with 1 still cooking.

There's only 1 Carlos.

.. and she's all we need!

Re: Larry
First flush of the catheter tomorrow.
He's been excited all day today because his Mom is coming for 3 weeks at Christmas with his niece.
We're looking forward to the visit!

Saturday.

We made plans to have a picnic today. It's not hard to pick a park and we probably picked the worst one in Hastings as far as the playground is concerned. The two standing had jeans on that were so tight, they couldn't sit down without possibly ripping them.

It was a nice day for it. Just missing Dad (my brother).

New Whittaker's white raspberry chocolate .. for breast cancer awareness month. Tasty.

Even Uncle Larry came despite being out of hospital for only 2 days! What a trooper.

Then it was home time so Tyler could get ready for the HBHS Ball tonight at an Estate in Eskdale.
Practised on her hair.

Carlos cheered her on.

Hairdresser Michelle.

Rome critiqued wearing Papa Greg's glasses she knows she isn't allowed to touch.

But he's in Christchurch this weekend and we all had a house party at Nan & Papas house this afternoon during their absence.

The hairstyle.

The girls .. at Nans .. watching Tyler get ready for the ball. (prom)

Carlos played aeroplanes with Shai.

So did Rome.

... and Jeston ...

.. even grumpy smurf Nessa ....

.. Mum (Michelle) was kidding herself.

The bling.

My brother has 5 daughters and 1 son ... he thinks there are two more sons waiting to be born, but he too is kidding himself.

3 dresses later, we found the one.

aannnndddddd ..... scene.

Last day in the hospital.
The X-Files eye.

The cold meat & salad for lunch that he didn't eat.

Home today.
Carlos fast asleep.

And here's Larell in her flower girl dress for Aunty Stace's wedding next month.

Surgery.

It was mostly a waiting game from 8am to 4pm.
So we waited.

And waited.

Got an anti-biotic shot via the drip and waited.

Then slept and waited.
At 4pm they rolled him away to the surgery unit.

In typical Hawkes Bay hospital spirit, they didn't call me when he was out of theatre nor did they call me when he was in recovery or when he was rolled back into the ward an hour later.
The call I got was from his ward nurse, at 7pm, who was looking for his cellphone because he was frantic that it wasn't in his room or bag .. because it was in my pocket.

Good news and bad news.
Good news, the surgery went well.
Bad news, it's hospital food til Thursday.

I don't even know what the brown stuff was. To me it tasted like what I imagine re-fried beans with mashed powdered potato would taste like. Cold.

A good day.
Miss him tonight, but I'll enjoy not kicking him in the shins each time he snores.

The day.

Surgery day today. Very rarely am I up this early, but there's a disco of butterflies jiving in my belly and I'm borderline nauseous.

Larry is expected at the hospital in an hour. He's scheduled for a morning surgery and we hope he'll get a slot in today. Last time he waited three days and was on call for his surgery so couldn't eat for those three days.

To be continued ...

Out all day Saturday.

I'm not a fan of league at all, but our community sports club have more league teams this year including a very impressive Under 17s team. They played Napier Tech today and beat them.
This poor guy in the red broke his leg 15 minutes into the first half.

League = 5 chances to get the ball down to your goal for a try, technically 6, the last one is the final attempt before the ball is given to the other team. See? Boring.

It's faster yes, but there is no thought put into it because of the limitation that is the 5 attempts. Again, boring. It's all about Rugby Union .. and the All Blacks game that is about to begin in 40 minutes against South Africa. They need to redeem themselves after lastweeks shamble of a game.

The baby at the park on a freezing day.

She repeated the s**t word today after I accidentally switched off my nephews Xbox with my elbow and said it.
Go All Blacks!

So says Rome.

Can I have some M&Ms Rome?
I was going to plant them so I can grow an M&M tree.

Carlos screams and bites when Rome has his attention.
She's not big on sharing.

Uncle Larry, you're nice and squishy to hug and your hair smells like clouds.

Why do you love Uncle Larry Rome?
Because he's just a loveable guy.

Are you a monkey Rome?
I'm not a monkey!
That's right! You're human.
No! Aunty said I'm an ass.

Have her for an hour or two. You'll agree.

Spring snow.

Signs that summer is coming with a reminder that winter is still tailgating.

School.

The plan was to take 24 papers required to qualify for the dialysis technician paper, which is 2 years in Auckland. It's supposed to be offered in Feb 2013, but there have been delays with completing the curriculum. In the meantime, they've advised me complete the 24 papers in the event it's all a go in Feb 2013.  I was late in applying and made it only in time into the 4th intake of the year, but for only 12 papers. Larry suggested I double time, since I have the time, and get ahead of myself and apply for the last intake despite the overlap and the 98% denial of a place.

It's week 5 this week of the current intake and I'm 4 papers ahead of myself. 7 papers have passed, 2 still need to be marked. I heard back today that I landed a spot in the 5th intake. Good news for me .. not so fab for my brain.

My sister will be happy to know that there's a potential we'll be moving to Auckland for possibly 2 years (in the event they don't allow me to transfer to the local hospital here to complete the practicum). We won't be renting Ponz, we'll be moving in. Yes. We. Will.

Sushi undone. Re: Larry

Sushi salad = inside out sushi.
I needed sherry for the dressing, but I didn't know what I was looking for after standing in the bottle section of Pak n Save for 20 minutes looking for a sherry colored beverage. I remembered I had merlot at home and told myself it would suffice.
It did.

Smoked salmon. Really didn't know how much better it is than non-smoked.

Delicious.
I think it's my new summer salad.

Re: Larry
Pre-admissions appointment today resulted in everyone being concerned with his heart. This only matters for the transplant list. He does not qualify at the moment because of it. The haemo is too harsh on his body and it does things to his blood pressure. It's not a pleasant feeling and he's looking forward to PD, which is 6 weeks away.
